It seems only fitting that we receive our first big snow of the season the week I delve into the first few chapters of “A Game of Thrones.” After all, winter is coming, right?
Amidst my first true foray into George R.R. Martin’s literary epic — my in-laws bought me the 5-book set for Christmas, so I’ve got some catching up to do — and its house battles, dragons and direwolves, I’m imagining Winterfell in all its glory. So it makes sense that I draw style inspiration from one of the “Game of Thrones” shooting locations: Scotland.
This outfit is my first “Look for Less” steal for 2019, as this skirt’s details make it an easy substitute for this $2,600 Gucci pleated tartan skirt. Maybe it’s just Indiana, but it seems like thrift shops always carry at least one plaid wool midi skirt on the racks, a prize if you’re willing to search. And maybe you won’t even need to search that hard; thanks to the lovely Marie Kondo and her KonMari method, secondhand shops are seeing a dramatic increase in donations.
