That Old Hollywood feeling

Posted on

Fact (only slightly exaggerated): Every awards show host changes outfits at least 10 times during the course of the evening. So when planning my Oscar party photo shoot, I felt compelled to bring along a second outfit as any proper host would. This floor-length red satin number is just one of HUNDREDS of dresses being distributed FOR FREE during The Gifted Gown‘s prom events kicking off later this month. Yep, you read that right: for free.

The Gifted Gown, an Indianapolis 501c3 nonprofit, provides Indy-area teens with formalwear (including shoes and accessories) for prom and Homecoming at absolutely no cost, no questions asked.  Find out how you can get involved by donating dresses, spreading the word or volunteering as a personal stylist. (Speaking from experience, it’s so fun, it doesn’t feel like volunteering at all!) And if you know of a teen who deserves a styling session, encourage them to sign up for a time during one of The Gifted Gown’s upcoming prom styling days.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Nothing says Old Hollywood more than soft waves, so I turned to Michelle at Studio 2000 to transform my stick-straight hair into something much more dramatic and romantic. With her expertise (and some YouTube video tutorials), the result was…

Add a bejeweled clutch and vintage-style necklace (similar styles for under $20 here and here) and a pair of nude or sparkly heels, and voila! Instant Old Hollywood glamour.

(Check out more from the Old Hollywood Oscar party, including more stunning formal red-carpet dresses from The Gifted Gown, Academy-approved snacks and fierce looks from a few of my Indy Blog Society friends.)
