New Year’s … in Westeros?

Nothing speaks more to the Midwest’s unpredictable weather than a sudden, frigid wave of subzero temps that’s left my friends and fellow bloggers scrambling to find a perfect New Year’s Eve outfit that won’t require sacrificing their limbs to frostbite. I’m not exaggerating about the cold: The low on New Year’s Day is -14 degrees Fahrenheit. Thanks for the (not-so) warm welcome, 2018.

Of course, I’m that perpetually cold girl in the office who wears blazers and scarves in June, so I’ve had years of practice in convincing myself I’m warmer than I am–or at least dressing that way. This year, my NYE outfit inspiration comes from an unlikely pop culture mashup: if a future British royal instead found herself roaming around Westeros. Winter is coming, people.

Have you seen Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s official engagement portraits yet? Meghan’s classy couture Ralph & Russo gown–with its long sleeves and dramatic skirt–is where I first drew inspiration. I layered a metallic long-sleeved bodysuit with multiple strands of necklaces of varying lengths, including an appropriate celestial star. The best part of this outfit? I draped a single-layered sheer tulle skirt with sequins (only $10 from Forever 21!) over an old Bailey 44 tulle skirt from Anthropologie to give it new life. Add a Game of Thrones-worthy faux fur coat in a neutral shade for warmth and velvet booties (cute yet practical), and you’re perfectly dressed to enjoy New Year’s Eve without any risk of becoming a popsicle.

OUTFIT DEETS:
Metallic bodysuit, sequined tulle skirt overlay, nude faux-leather crossbody purse and necklaces: Forever 21 (bodysuit and tulle skirt overlay still sold in stores and similar style of bodysuit and skirt overlays available online; purse and starburst necklace both available in stores and online)
Black tulle skirt: Bailey 44
Velvet booties: Steve Madden
